The Governor’s Dangerous Gamble

Shed a tear for New York because Gov. Kathy Hochul has fallen hard and can’t get up. She has staked her re-election on Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his socialist allies, now trying to clean up his mess. Her attempt to play “big sister” to the mayor isn’t helping him; it’s just confirming she has no real convictions. Instead of fixing the state’s mess, she is doubling down on the very policies that are driving families and businesses out of the Vampire State.

Michael Goodwin reports that Hochul is now foolishly trying to rescue Mamdani from the fallout of his anti-semitic actions. This gambit is succeeding spectacularly in showing she is just a weathervane with no true direction. She was elected to govern sensibly, but instead, she has let the far left capture her and turn her into their eager financier.

The Silence on Genocide Lies

Goodwin points out that Hochul preached about truth-telling after Prime Minister Netanyahu accused Mamdani of supporting Hamas, yet she stayed silent on Mamdani’s “genocide” lie. She claims the mayor has criticized Hamas, but Mamdani routinely dances around the question. He told Fox News, “I don’t really have opinions about the future of Hamas and Israel,” beyond international law, which is a smarmy way to elevate a death cult while denigrating a democratic nation, according to the New York Post.

The Governor insists the mayor has condemned the Oct. 7 attacks, but the reporting shows he sees nothing wrong with the phrase “Globalize the Intifada.Back in 2021, a rally featuring a sign declaring “Only one solution: Intifada, Revolution” was addressed by Mamdani. Now, critics say his words are “inciting riots against New York Jews” and that “Jews no longer feel safe in New York.” Hochul’s defense of this record is a disaster for anyone who cares about safety in this city.

A Plan to Plunge the State

There is nothing moderate about Hochul’s record. Under her leadership, New York has suffered an accelerating decline due to pivotal choices she enacted. Because she chose to direct billions of taxpayer dollars toward Mamdani to win over his radical base, the state’s finances remain stretched. This has become a growing concern for Wall Street rating agencies and investors who see the money vanishing.

Instead of stopping the exodus of the wealthy, she has stayed the destructive course. Her re-election bid focuses primarily on Mamdani’s supporters, expecting they will return these favors through their votes. But this strategy ignores the reality that New Yorkers are fleeing the state in record numbers. Hochul is alligned with an agenda that supports “the Hamas terrorist monsters who butchered our people,” and she refuses to call it out, according to the New York Post.

The Road Ahead

The next big test comes when Hochul faces the voters in the upcoming election cycle, where her alignment with Mamdani will be the central issue. Should she keep defending a mayor who planted an olive tree at Gracie Mansion with Palestinian families while stating “peace be our future,” the moderate vote will be lost. New Yorkers need a governor who puts safety first, not one who protects those who hate Israel. This is opinion and commentary from the RapForMayor team.
