A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Queens on Wednesday morning that has left the community reeling and police scrambling for answers. Inside his residence, a deceased adult man with autism was located, while his mother, severely injured, was found after leaping from a significant highway. The circumstances surrounding the deaths have triggered a murder and attempted suicide investigation by the NYPD.

Bryan Wong, a 25-year-old man, is the focus of this incident; he was located unconscious, bearing multiple slash wounds across his neck and wrists. His father discovered the scene and immediately called 911, but the young man was pronounced dead by EMS workers on the spot. Only hours after locating his mother under the Van Wyck Expressway in the street, this grim discovery ignited a desperate effort to comprehend the events within that apartment.

Horror Inside the Woodside Apartment

Law enforcement sources characterized the scene at the walk-up building situated on 59th Street near Laurel Hill Boulevard in Woodside as disturbing and chaotic. Bryan Wong, who sources indicate may have been nonverbal, was found on a pull-out couch with life-threatening injuries. Investigators noted that at least three knives were present at the scene, with one located in the living room and two found in the bathroom.

According to the New York Post, the father’s call to 911 marked the beginning of a desperate search for the mother, who had vanished from the home. The timing of the events suggests a coordinated and devastating sequence of actions. Police are now treating the case as a potential murder-suicide, though the official cause of death remains under investigation.

The Mother’s Plunge From the Highway

Approximately four hours prior to Bryan’s discovery, the mother was found around 4 a.m. lying in the street beneath the Van Wyck Expressway on Harper Street in Corona. A driver in the vicinity noticed her disabled gray Hyundai on the expressway’s north side and subsequently found her lying in the street. She was rushed to the hospital with a fractured pelvis and femur but was reported to be in stable condition.

Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that investigators found a note left behind by the woman regarding her son and his financial information. This detail adds a layer of complexity to the case, suggesting premeditation or a desperate attempt to explain her actions. The fact that she survived the jump while her son did not has left neighbors and officials in shock.

A Community in Shock and Seeking Answers

This is a devastating blow to the Woodside neighborhood and a stark reminder of the hidden crises that can tear families apart. The RapForMayor team stands with the Wong family during this unimaginable time, even as the investigation moves forward. It is crucial to remember that while the police are investigating a potential crime, the mother is currently a survivor in a hospital bed, not a convicted criminal.

The investigation is active and ongoing as of Wednesday, with no specific court dates or hearings announced yet. The NYPD will likely release more details once the mother is stable enough to speak and the forensic work at the scene is complete. This is opinion and commentary from the RapForMayor team.
