A night of remembrance ruined
New York is a city built on resilience, but some people just can’t help themselves from trying to tear things down. On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, while we were all trying to honor the dead, a total clown decided to turn a moment of solemnity into a circus.
It’s sickening. We were at Yankee Stadium for the Subway Series, reflecting on a tragedy that changed our lives forever, and instead, we got a political stunt that nobody asked for and nobody wanted.
The disruption at 9:11 PM
According to reporting from the New York Post, a man carrying a Palestinian flag sprinted onto the field during the seventh inning of the Yankees-Mets game. The timing couldn’t have been more disrespectful. The incident happened at exactly 9:11 PM, a time that carries heavy weight for every New Yorker.
Nick Arama of RedState reported that the man invaded the field during a period of intense emotion. Before this chaos, the stadium had shown a seven-minute tribute on the scoreboard. This video featured legends like Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Paul O’Neill, Bernie Williams, and Jorge Posada. These players were reflecting on the aftermath of the 2001 attacks.
The evening was meant to be about healing. Brielle Saracini and Sean McGuire, both of whom lost their fathers in the 2001 attacks, even threw out the first pitches. The New York Post noted that the crowd reacted to the intruder with anger, with many fans shouting “USA! USA!” and others yelling at the man as security moved in. The Post also reported that fans were throwing drinks at the protester while he struggled against guards.
Zero respect for the Bronx
I don’t care what your politics are; there is a time and a place for everything, and the middle of a 9/11 memorial at Yankee Stadium is not the place for a political stunt. This guy thought he was making a statement, but all he did was show how little respect he has for the people of this city. He took a night that was about the lives lost and the strength of New York and tried to make it about his own agenda.
The stadium was filled with the sounds of Lee Greenwood singing “God Bless the USA” and fans chanting for our country. It was a beautiful, heavy moment. Then this guy runs out waving a flag, trying to hijack the energy. It’s a disgrace to the players, the families who lost loved ones, and every fan sitting in those stands.
We see this all the time lately. People think they can hijack public spaces to scream about global conflicts while ignoring the actual history happening right in front of them. It’s cheap, it’s loud, and it’s incredibly disrespectful to the 2001 Yankees and the city they helped represent during our darkest hour.
