Justice Served for a Bronx Tragedy

This is a nightmare for any New York parent, and it just happened in the Bronx. Angel Carrasco, the man accused of shoving his girlfriend and their baby off a 15th-floor balcony, is finally behind bars. The US Marshals Service grabbed him Wednesday evening after a frantic manhunt. He left a dead mother and a fighting baby in his wake, but he won’t get away with it.

The Facts of the Case

According to reporting from the New York Post, Carrasco allegedly lost his cool on Tuesday morning after failing to reconcile with Nathaly Ramirez, 23. He shoved her while she clutched their 8-month-old daughter, Angel Novalty Carrasco-Ramirez, off the balcony at 2550 Olinville Ave. The New York Post reports that officers found the pair on the ground with injuries consistent with a fall from that height. Ramirez was rushed to Jacobi Hospital and pronounced dead. Her baby was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Neighbors heard the chaos before the fall. Another resident, Margaret Attaway, heard “A loud scream, and after that, I didn’t hear nothing.” The infant’s condition has since stabilized, with police sources telling amNewYork the child is on the verge of a miraculous recovery. Carrasco fled the scene but was caught by US Marshals Wednesday evening.

US Marshal Ricky J. Patel addressed the capture in a statement to the New York Post. “This horrific tragedy weighs heavily on every team member who worked this case,” Patel said. He added, “We owed it to the brave mother who gave her life to save her child from a vicious individual.” The wanted poster issued by the NYPD showed a chilling image of Carrasco playing with a large kitchen knife in an elevator. Sources say he had been in two other domestic violence incidents involving Ramirez earlier this year.

A Vicious Act in Our City

This is exactly the kind of violence that makes New Yorkers feel unsafe in their own homes. It’s not just a crime; it’s an act of pure evil. Carrasco allegedly brought flowers hoping to smooth things over, then turned into a monster when his girlfriend wouldn’t take him back. That is not a lover’s quarrel; that is a premeditated rage that cost a mother her life. We need to be clear: this is what happens when domestic abusers are not stopped early.

The fact that the baby survived is the only silver lining in this dark story. Being held by her mother cushioned the fall, giving the little girl a chance to live. But the loss of Ramirez is a devastating blow to her family and our community. As US Marshal Patel noted, taking this suspect off the street ensures he will answer for his alleged heinous actions. “While nothing can undo this terrible loss, taking this suspect off the street ensures he will answer for his alleged heinous actions,” Patel stated. That is the only justice we have right now.
