A Hudson Valley boutique is finally bringing its goods to Manhattan. Solstad House General Store, based in Beacon, New York, has signed a deal to open a shop in the Nolita neighborhood. This move adds fresh inventory to a city that often feels like it’s running out of unique local spots.

The deal closed fast, with the new location ready to welcome shoppers for the holiday season. According to Commercial Observer, the store secured a five-year lease on a 1,200-square-foot space at 167 Mott Street. The asking rent comes in at $6,750 per month, a figure that reflects the high demand for retail space in this part of the city.

Beacon Brand Brings Manhattan Customers

The speed of this transaction highlights the strong connection between upstate towns and city dwellers. Commercial Observer reported that Meridian Retail Leasing broker Carson Shahrabani stated they contacted Solstad House directly since the space seemed ideal for their brand, leading to rapid action. In approximately two weeks, the team progressed from the initial email to a signed lease.

Noam Aziz, also with Meridian, noted that the shop’s existing fanbase drove the expansion. “[Solstad House] already has a loyal following in Beacon, and a lot of those customers live in Manhattan,” Aziz said in a statement. The store will sell home goods, food items, puzzles, personal care products, and clothing. This expansion gives the brand a permanent home in the city for its urban clientele.

Smart Investment for the Property

The landlord behind this deal is Emmanuel Stark, who purchased the seven-story building at 167 Mott Street for $17 million back in 2015. The property, located between Broome and Grand streets, houses 26 residential units and two ground-floor retail units. The space Solstad House now occupies is one of those two units, which typically range between 500 and 600 square feet, though this specific lease covers 1,200 square feet.

The brokers representing both sides in the transaction were Shahrabani, Aziz, and Michael Escava of Meridian Retail Leasing. Their quick work ensured the space won’t sit empty during the most profitable time of the year for retail. This deal proves that even in a tough economy, unique brands can find a foothold if they have the right product and a loyal customer base.

This isn’t just another chain store opening; it’s a local brand expanding from a smaller town to the big city. New York needs more of this kind of organic growth rather than big-box retailers taking over every block. Solstad House brings a specific Hudson Valley charm that appeals to locals who want something different from the usual department stores.

The fact that they moved so quickly shows that smart business owners are still willing to invest in New York City. They aren’t waiting for perfect conditions; they are seeing an opportunity and taking it. For the Nolita neighborhood, this means more foot traffic and more reasons for people to walk down Mott Street.
