A Shocking Arrest in Westchester
Democrats are scrambling to distance themselves from a massive scandal rocking Westchester County. After authorities stated that Jennifer Lackard, the former Mount Vernon Deputy Police Commissioner, and her ex-con husband drove the getaway vehicle for her son during a Bronx gang-related shooting, she was charged with attempted murder, according to the Daily Wire. This isn’t just a bad hire; it’s a direct link between a top police official and violent crime.
The Facts Behind the Fallout
As The New York Post reported, local Democrats are trying to ignore the specifics of the case while the political fallout grows. Lackard was hired in 2020 as part of a police reform initiative by Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, despite having no prior law enforcement experience. She was given a newly created role overseeing wellness initiatives, a move that now looks like a glaring failure of judgment.
The situation is even more dangerous because of the numbers. Mount Vernon has roughly 44,000 registered voters, with Democrats holding a massive advantage of 31,000 compared to just 2,800 Republicans. This shift from a Republican stronghold to a Democratic “Sixth Borough” seems to have created an environment where qualifications were ignored for ideology. Governor Kathy Hochul’s office issued a vague statement condemning police misconduct generally, but they refused to address Lackard’s specific crimes directly.
Although State Sen. Jamaal Bailey condemned the actions, he attempted to provide the city with an excuse by asserting that her behavior could never have been predicted at the time of her hiring. Meanwhile, the violence itself was brutal. The suspect, known as “Slutty Gang member” Chase Lackard, shot at a rival gang member last June while his mother and father facilitated the escape.
Why This Is a Disaster for NYC Safety
This is exactly what happens when you prioritize political loyalty over public safety. We are seeing a pattern where people with no experience are handed keys to the police department, and then their own families run wild with guns. It is insulting to the men and women in blue who risk their lives every day to keep our streets safe. They don’t need commissioners who drive getaway cars for their children.
The hypocrisy is staggering. We have a mayor who wants to look like a reformer, but the result is a deputy commissioner tied to a gang shooting. This isn’t reform; it’s a cover-up of incompetence. When you hire someone just to check a box for a “wellness initiative” and they turn out to be an accessory to attempted murder, you have to ask who is really watching the watchmen.
