A Father’s Double Tragedy
Michael Davey, known globally as the Jamaican dancehall star Powerman, is devastated. His 25-year-old son, Christopher, was stabbed to death on a Brooklyn sidewalk last Friday. This horror comes just 16 months after Davey lost his 32-year-old stepson while the boy worked in upstate New York. The pain of losing two children in such a short window has left the veteran artist unable to function.
According to reporting from the New York Post, Davey told the outlet he “couldn’t stop crying” after learning the news. The tragedy struck in East Flatbush while the young man was simply trying to drop off laundry for his mother. It’s a heartbreaking scene that highlights the violence tearing through our neighborhoods.
The Details of the Attack
Police say Christopher Davey was ambushed around the corner from his home on Linden Boulevard. He was heading to a laundromat near 882 Albany Ave. when he was attacked. Despite being rushed in critical condition to Kings County Hospital by EMS, he couldn’t be saved. Twice stabbed before the building, the younger Davey suffered the attack.
Davey recalled the moment his ex-wife called with the devastating news. “My ex-wife, his mother, called me crying,” he said. She told him, “They killed Chris, him dead, him dead.” The father noted that his son had been struggling deeply since the death of his older brother. “He was going through a lot of problems,” the dad said. Just after his brother’s death, he fell into depression. Even quitting his job, Christopher devoted his days to video games.
Justice Must Be Served
Powerman is right to demand answers, and he is also right to demand consequences. A safe city can’t exist if killers walk free. The streets are dangerous, and this attack proves it. As Davey put it, “First and foremost, I’m looking for justice for my son.” The family has already endured too much loss to accept another silence.
We need to see the person who did this held accountable immediately. There has to be an example set for everyone in this city. “There has to be some example set.” If people believe they can walk up and kill others, the streets will be unsafe for everyone. If we let this slide, we are telling criminals that it is okay to take a life in our boroughs. The NYPD must find the killer and lock them up. The community can’t afford another delay.
This family has lost their son and their stepson to senseless violence and tragedy. They deserve peace, not more pain. We stand with Powerman and his family during this unimaginable time. The city needs to wake up and stop the bleeding before more families are destroyed.
The NYPD is currently investigating the fatal stabbing that occurred on Friday around 5:30 p.m. in East Flatbush. There is no specific court date or hearing announced yet, but the pressure is on for detectives to close the case quickly. New Yorkers are watching to see if justice is actually served in this tragedy.
