Our city is bleeding, and sometimes the wounds are too deep to see. A 5-year-old girl is dead in South Richmond Hill, found unconscious and bleeding after a violent assault inside her own home. Detectives in Queens are now waiting on autopsy results while the community reels from this unthinkable loss. No arrests have been made, and the clock is ticking for the family.

This nightmare unfolded on Wednesday night when the 102nd Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding an assault. Officers arrived just before 7 p.m. to find the child unresponsive with trauma to her nose and mouth. Even though she arrived at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, efforts to save her failed. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner received her body to determine the exact cause of death.

A Mother’s Call Turns Into a Tragedy

The facts here are grim and demand our full attention. According to reporting from the New York Post and Gothamist, the girl’s mother called 911 after an apparent assault occurred inside the house on the 9500 block of 110th Street. Police sources told amNewYork that officers found the youngster unconscious and unresponsive upon arrival. While ABC7 reported that the mother was also hospitalized for evaluation, police sources could not confirm that specific detail on Thursday morning.

Identity matters, and the NYPD has not yet released the child’s name pending proper family notification. This is a standard procedure, but the silence is heavy. The investigation remains active, and the lack of immediate arrests leaves too many questions unanswered for a family that just lost their daughter.

Queens Deserves Answers Now

We are sick of watching innocent children suffer in our neighborhoods. When a 5-year-old is beaten to death in Queens, it is not just a statistic; it is a failure of safety. The RapForMayor team believes that a violent assault resulting in the death of a child must be treated with the utmost urgency. Police are investigating, but the public needs to know that “awaiting autopsy” cannot become an excuse for delay.

There is no room for confusion when lives are at stake. The reports from amNewYork, Gothamist, and the New York Post all align on the core facts: a 911 call for assault, a critical injury, and a death. The variation in street addresses or exact times of arrival does not change the horror of the event. As of late Wednesday night, no arrests have been made, so the pressure must be on the NYPD to move fast.

We stand with the family in South Richmond Hill during this darkest hour. But we also demand accountability.

This is opinion and commentary from the RapForMayor team.
